| Children based at these orphanages usually have been abandoned by their parents due to economic problems, illnesses, or simply because they are unwanted.
The government offers support through some institutions with basic provisions such as food and clothing and sometimes medical care. However, it’s just as important for the children to receive love and affection. Hence, the volunteer’s job is to work one-on-one with the children, helping with their studies, developing their skills, building their confidence, playing with them, and offering care and love. Working with them will allow you to learn about the problems that poverty and social marginalization cause within this very sensitive and vulnerable population.
Volunteers can work either in the mornings or in the afternoons, from Monday to Friday, for about 2-3 hours each day.
Volunteers can teach children ideas involving basic health and hygiene, English, games, or music. They also have the freedom to improvise by organizing other activities that might be beneficial to the children in some way.
